Helping Hands Impact Fund

Eligibility Overview

Offers funds for single mothers with children currently residing in the shelter. Funding is primarily intended for this group.

Funding may also be accessed by women residing in the shelter without children, subject to the following stipulations.

Shelter Women Without Children

Shelter women without children may receive KKFF funds for the following:

Eligibility

Eligibility varies depending on individual circumstances and should be determined reasonably by the designated staff agent responsible for allocating KKFF funds.

Available Support

  • Support for women transitioning into housing (services and goods as available)
  • Relocation assistance:
    • Plane, train, or bus ticket to a verified safe location
    • $50 cash for travel expenses
  • Luggage or backpacks (when in stock)
  • Hotel accommodations for up to 2 days if the Domestic Violence Shelter is at capacity

Shelter Women With Children

Shelter women with children may receive KKFF funds for the following:

Housing & Utilities

  • First month’s rent & deposit: up to $3,000
  • Moving truck and/or storage unit: $100
  • Utility shut-off assistance (with notice): up to $1,000
  • Utility deposit funds: up to $500 (to establish an account in the survivor’s name)

Transportation

  • Auto repair funds: up to $1,000
    • If located in Flint, MI, recommended provider: ABC Auto Repair, 5360 S. Saginaw St, Grand Blanc, MI 48439 (810-603-7400)
    • Otherwise, use a trusted local repair shop
  • Auto down payment: up to $1,500
    • Must have steady income
    • Must demonstrate ability to meet future loan payments
    • Income eligibility must be reported
    • Shelters may optionally assist with vehicle purchase and title transfer if applicable

Basic Needs & Support

  • Childcare assistance: up to $500
  • Emergency clothing funds: up to $500
  • Emergency food funds: up to $500
  • One-time cash assistance: $100 (if needed)

Eviction Prevention

  • Safeguard against eviction funds: up to $3,500
    • Documentation must confirm eviction is related to a domestic violence situation

Communication & Essentials

  • New cell phone funds: up to $150
  • Funds may be used to create essential care packages for women and children

Temporary Housing

  • Hotel accommodations for up to 5 days for single mothers and their children if the shelter is at capacity

Donations & Ongoing Support

The Kyle Kuzma Family Foundation will continue to secure donations for single mothers and their children. Donated items should remain at the shelter and be used in good faith by organizations receiving funds. KKFF will communicate as donations become available.
